do people reeelllly watch these?

I have always been a fan of cutting a director reel, or montage reel, or whatever people call them. To me, it felt like a great way to reflect on my body of work, and try to put the best moments together, to showcase my voice and tone. As I was starting out, I would try to stay real current on cutting a reel, and would push to get footage from a project cut in, before the project was even released… Bonkers!

But, as time went on, I noticed, no one actually watched my reel, and for that matter, I never actually watch other people’s. I generally discover a filmmaker based on one project, whether its a feature, short, commercial, music video, whatever, something that grabs me in a unique way, then I spend a bunch of time checking out their work and seeing how their voice is identified in all the stuff they do.

So for the first time, since I’ve had a website, I’m not putting my reel up on the first page, front and center, as the thing I want people to see first. I feel like no one has time for that. Instead, I’m gonna bury it here in the blog, to be updated every couple years, until it seems like it’s something people want to see.
